Why Join/How to Join

Citizens must be involved in the decisions that their local governments are making. If you are not involved, don’t complain when:

  • the character of your neighborhood changes in a way you didn’t expect;
  • the streets become overcrowded and traffic is blocked;
  • cooling trees are decimated and local temperatures rise;
  • night skies are too bright for stars and meterorite viewing;
  • local flooding increases; and,
  • drinking water quality and quantity are negatively impacted.

Developers have a right to develop under current zoning but all new large developments are based on significant zoning changes. ROSA focuses on helping residents advocate for your own needs and rights in the face of overwhelming development pressure.

Together we can advocate for the “hard look” that is required under state environmental protection laws from out Town Boards and Planning Boards.

If there are egregious legal errors or significant oversights, we have the right to ask for higher courts to review and overturn local decisions. It should not be necessary to do this but together we can organize to ensure that real impacts are made known and addressed so that if court actions are necessary there is merit to the lawsuit. When land use approval are made, we only have 30 days to exercise legal rights so it pays to be organized.

When the community orgaizes and advocates for reasonable requests and rational mitigation, such advocacy helps ensure that developers and our town’s planning board do their homework. We advocate for independent experts to be hired to evaluate plans (at the cost of the builder and not the tax payers) and ask for plans to be adjusted to ensure those already living in the area will not be impacted by new development and rational concerns are fairly addressed.

No one person in our community is going to have the time, the effort and the money to tackle this issue on their own. But together, we can and we must spend a small portion of the time and the money needed to exercise our rights and to have our concerns addressed.

Project often feel like they are a “done deal”.  Our prior successes prove that this is not always the case.

Large scale development requires large scale infrastructure development. That investment is needed and wanted in our dense areas along Route 59. Let’s work together to better preserve the remaining environmentally sensitive area and advocate for sustainable zoning practices.

ROSA is an IRS registered not-for-profit organization that is 100% volunteer based.  We began as a few, engaged citizens coming together and ROSA has rapidly grown to include a multitude of concerned neighbors just like you.  We welcome your expertise, time and support into all our areas of need.

We are always looking for volunteers to:

  • Do research.
  • Organize documentation.
  • Work on the website.
  • Share news.
  • Educate your friends and neighbors.
  • Join us at public meetings to show, and sometimes voice, your support.
  • Host a gathering of friends and neighbors, where ROSA can explain who we are and present up-to-date information.  ROSA leadership is happy to attend your professional organization, place of work, house of worship or your home to share ROSA’s mission.
